Across the U.S. there are a total of 75 different breeds of dog which are either restricted or banned depending on the particular city legislation. Please be aware that the dogs on this list are NOT uniformly banned or restricted. Individual states, cities, counties or towns make specific local laws and those laws differ according to individual communities, however it is very important for every dog owner to be aware of their local breed specific laws. BEFORE YOU MOVE, buy or rent a home, be sure to check with the local city hall NOT the realtor to find out about local dog laws and if any breed-specific measures are in place or are being considered for the future. Also make sure to ask for a copy of the local ordinance, and then ask your local city council representative if they support breed-specific laws or measures of any kind.
